Hot Cinnamon Apples

These are SUPER EASY to make and they taste delicious!  They really good by themselves, but you can also spoon them over ice cream or top pancakes or waffles with them... plenty of ways to eat them!

3 lbs. apples, peeled and sliced  (about 8 cups)
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 Tbsp. Minute Tapioca  (make sure you get the Minute tapioca)
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Combine all in a slow cooker, and toss to combine. Cook on low for 3-4 hours, depending on how soft you like the apples.

Makes 8 servings, a little over 1/2 cup each

  1. Katie- I must be hungry this morning. I want to make these too! What type of apples do you use>? Something tart like granny smiths?

  2. Helen, I've tried it with all different types of apples, and the only ones I didn't care for were the Granny Smiths :) My favorite was the Gala, but any firm, sweet variety will do!

  4. Germerican Ang,
The tapioca has NO flavor whatsoever. It just makes the sauce thicker and gives it a smooth texture. If you cook it long enough, the little tapioca balls completely dissolve, so you wouldn't even know that the tapioca is there, I promise! ;)

  5. This recipe has become a staple in my house ever since I first tried it. Almost like having pie filling for breakfast. Mmmm!

  6. MMM - looks good. Quick question...does it keep well? I would probably be the only one eating it and it would take me a while to finish off that amount of apples.

  7. Thank you for the reply! For some reason when I look at those apples I want to plop a few on top of my steel cut oats to sweeten it up.

  8. Can it be frozen and thawed for later use?

    1. Hmm... I haven't tried it, so I'm really not sure. I don't imagine the texture would be very good if it was frozen and then thawed, though. If you try it, let me know!

  9. I did a 1/2 size run of this. So far it's not looking anything like that picture but I'm hoping given the time the minute tapioca will break down and it'll start looking saucy!
